The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has announced a significant milestone, with taxpayer savings reaching $160 billion, as detailed on the official DOGE website.
These savings stem from a variety of actions, including asset sales, contract cancellations, fraud eliminations, and workforce reductions, averaging about $993.79 per taxpayer.
In the past week, DOGE reported substantial progress by terminating 179 wasteful contracts in just two days, amounting to a ceiling value of $1.87 billion and yielding $280 million in savings.
Additionally, an update on Thursday revealed the cancellation of 401 contracts valued at $2.1 billion, resulting in $613 million in savings.
Notable terminations included a $276,000 contract for a “Kenya program coordinator,” and a $228,000 Treasury contract for vehicles in Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, and Tanzania.
Other cuts involved a $24,000 DHS contract for training on equal employment opportunities, a $15,000 contract for workplace advocacy, and a $5.9 million contract for environmental consulting.
This week, DOGE also praised the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for terminating 420 grants, which led to savings of $2.3 billion.
Among these were a $150,000 grant for gender-inclusive curricula in food and agriculture, a $100,000 grant for climate resilience in Ghana, and a $361,000 grant aimed at supporting gender non-conforming BIPOC farmers in New York.
President Donald Trump affirmed that DOGE’s efforts will continue, even with Elon Musk returning to his business ventures.
