Former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has made significant trades in key technology stocks, including Apple, Nvidia, Amazon, and Alphabet, according to a filing released on Monday.
Representing California’s 11th congressional district, Pelosi sold 31,600 shares of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) on the last trading day of 2024, with the sale valued between $5 million and $25 million. This transaction stands out as her largest trade in the past month, as detailed in her Periodic Transaction Report.
Additionally, on January 14, 2025, Pelosi acquired 50 call options for Alphabet Inc. Class A (NASDAQ: GOOGL) and Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), each with a strike price of $150 and set to expire on January 16, 2026. The total value of these options was between $250,001 and $500,000.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sold 10,000 shares of NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) for between $1 million and $5 million. In addition, she exercised 500 call options on Nvidia valued between $500,001 and $1 million and purchased 50 call options in the chipmaker, set with a strike price of $80 and an expiration date of January 16, 2026.
Among other transactions, Pelosi exercised 140 call options in Palo Alto Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: PANW), valued between $1 million and $5 million, and bought 50 call options in Tempus AI Inc. (NASDAQ: TEM). She also acquired 50 call options in Vistra Energy Corp. (NYSE: VST).
Pelosi and her husband, Paul Pelosi, have been active in the equity markets, drawing criticism from some who argue that her position as a lawmaker provides her with an unfair advantage. A law enacted in 2012 prohibits lawmakers from using insider knowledge for personal gain and mandates that they or their family members disclose stock transactions within 45 days.
Data from the analytics firm Unusual Whales, which monitors Congressional trading activity, reveals that Nancy Pelosi’s portfolio surged by 70.9% in 2024, significantly outpacing the S&P 500’s 25% increase.
However, Pelosi was not the top performer among her Congressional colleagues. Representative David Rouzer from North Carolina’s 7th district experienced an impressive 140% jump in his portfolio last year.
Unusual Whales also offers exchange-traded funds that track the trading activities of Democratic and Republican lawmakers, known as NANC and KRUZ, respectively.
