Reddit Stock Soars 34% in June

Published on

Shares of Reddit (RDDT) experienced a significant surge last month, benefiting from overall market gains, the launch of its new Community Intelligence product, and positive developments in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. According to S&P Global Market Intelligence, the stock ended June up 34%.

Most of the gains occurred mid-month, with a late rally in the broader market following eased tensions in the Middle East also contributing to the rise.

Riding the AI Wave

The standout news for Reddit was the unveiling of Reddit Community Intelligence at the Cannes Lions Festival. This new platform, described as “the collective knowledge from billions of human conversations on Reddit,” includes two main features.

First is Reddit Insights, a tool providing marketers with real-time insights from 20 years of conversations, helping them plan campaigns and make informed decisions. The second is Conversation Summary Add-ons, which highlights positive user content directly beneath an advertiser’s post.

Currently in alpha testing with a select group of customers, these initiatives reflect Reddit’s strategy to leverage its wealth of user-generated content, which could enhance both AI applications and its advertising capabilities. The stock jumped 19.4% over a three-day period during the Cannes Festival.

Additionally, positive analyst commentary regarding Meta’s acquisition of Scale AI has bolstered expectations for the data-licensing business Reddit aims to establish with its content corpus.

What Lies Ahead for Reddit?

Since its IPO last March, Reddit’s stock has skyrocketed, attributed to strong growth and newfound profitability. After years of operating at a loss prior to going public, several factors now appear to be propelling the business: its relevance in the AI landscape, interest in alternative social media advertising platforms, and heightened attention following its IPO.

The enthusiasm surrounding the new Community Intelligence tool indicates investor confidence in Reddit’s potential in AI and advertising. While it’s uncertain if this will significantly impact profits soon, Reddit remains a unique player in its field. The stock carries risks, but also offers considerable upside potential.
